Generally Japanese manga is definitely the best. But it's mostly due to Japanese manga having a bigger supply. There's just sooo many manga out there to read. Webtoons are really pleasant to read though, especially since it's usually fully colored. I initially disliked manhwas because of the only manhwas I could read at the time were written by Han Yu Rang. They often start with a great concept but, when the climax seems to have already been reached; another conflict arises. Everything just dragged and I couldn't bring myself to finish them. I used to only read Japanese manga but nowadays I tend to only read Korean webtoons for all the same reasons that you've mentioned. I read hundreds of Japanese BL manga in the past and now I don't read any at all because I find Korean/Chinese BL webtoons to be more fun and also lengthy. I like long series the most. I still read non-BL manga, though...... reply
I perfer Japanese. The art is (most of the time) cleaner. They have an editor so it feels more put together. Most of the time, it doesn't go on forever. With webtoon most don't have someone who tells them to move on from a scene, or how to rearrange a scene so it feels smoother. I like the Japanese manga more because I can read them and they have better character and seem real to me. Korean manga are good some of them, but the art is not very good for a lot. The same happened to me! I got into this because of the Japanese manga, but now I just can't deny I like Korean manhwa more. When it comes to BL and romance. But I still like manga way more in other genres (horror, thriller, action, fantasy, etc). reply
Honestly, it depends on the genre. I've really liked the recent BL webtoons that've been uploaded these past couple years, but if i'm being honest, a lot of them have way too much drama. I like manga better, overall. I've only found a handful of webtoons that I've liked. The premises of webtoons I've read have been at extremes of a spectrum, where the protagonist is either very generic and boring with a very generic and boring love interest, or he's a doormat wrapped up in some abusive psychological warfare with the love interest. ...... 1 reply
Same, actually. I love manga, but when lately I have been preferring webtoons since, as you said, feel more mature and have more depth in a way. They are also generally a lot longer, so it gives a lot of room for the characters to develop more, or to just see more of them.
