Thoughts About Rape In Fiction

As a queer person and rape victim, it really doesn't surprise me how often rape shows up in yaoi. I've been reading it for years now and it still disgusts me. People like to justify their fetishes by distancing themselves from it. It's "fiction". I see a lot of so-called psychologists in the comment section. I'm in university for psychology as well......   10 reply

Do you condone murder just because you like watching psycho-killer movies? People aren't just black or white, yes or no. There's always an OR. So it depends on the story and the reaction will be totally different if it's a real life situation. Unless the person is insane, I don't think people will be giving that a free pass nor will be imitating it......   1 reply

I think the reason we see it a lot in yaoi is because, in Japan at least, there is a historical context of rape being deemed a romantic gesture. He was so overcome by her beauty that he had to have her, and so on and so forth. If you do a search online you can find some interesting articles on it. It's also why mangas have that trope where the l......   2 reply

I think there are a few things to consider? I think, as a fictional trope, rape sometimes allows the reader to feel in-control of a situation that, normally, IRL, would be horrifying and out of their control. If that makes sense. And I think that's why some rape fantasy in fiction tends toward that. That being said, though, I think there should b......   1 reply

Rape isn’t the solution to your lack of imagination, authors usually use rape as a tool to make a faster development (between the two main characters or not) it becomes sex (if between the two main characters) and then as the story goes on the rape is dismissed. No. I have nothing against dark themes if well written but a lot of yaois authors (or......   reply

Well the thing is that it's fiction. In fiction, fictional things happen like pigs fly or zombie eats a vampire (idk) and rape is not fictional, neither is death or murder, yet sometimes it happen in yaoi as well ecchi, smut, yuri and any other mature content. To say that rape is wrong is absolutely true but, so is murder yet, people say murder is ......   3 reply

LOL... So, what would you call people who love watching killers themed movies?? Psycho? After all, killing people happen in real life and it's such a horrible act. Does that mean they are okay with that? What would you call people who love watching BSDM? You might say, that's just a play and people involved in that fandom doing things with consent......   6 reply

Yaoi fan girls in this thread are literally admitting to getting off on seeing gay men get raped, yet wonder why gay men are uncomfortable with fujoshis as a group   5 reply

Yess exactly. Well I can't change the old mangas. Because when the yaoi industry started people used to like the aggressive plotlines rather than slice of life ones. I still see old mangas with rapey or forcible affection plot with 8-9 rating but good old mangas with 7. Maybe we were not that up to date .But now after we had the knowledge of what t......   reply

So, I appreciate that more and more people are becoming frustrated with rape in yaoi. It's good that people question the stuff they see, and don't just treat it as normal. However, I think the people who are fine with rape in yaoi are more describing their personal feelings towards it - so more brutal rape may make people feel uncomfortable, whilst......   4 reply
