People fine with rape in yaoi = hypocrites?
So I've seen people complaining about rape and people complaining about the people bitching about rape but lately I wondered whether the people who didn't mind rape in yaoi are hypocrites.
I get the impression that people don't mind rape if it's not violent (eg. beating, torture) and isn't treated seriously in the story but what if the one who raped the uke is not the seme but some other random guy? would you guys still say that rape is okay? If it was during the beginning of the story and the seme and uke have yet to develop feelings for each other but the uke was vanilla raped (not violent) would you think that it was fine?
I don't know, the main argument that people who are fine with rape in yaoi usually say things like - "it's fiction" or "it always happens in yaoi anyway" but I think they're fine with it because the uke usually ends up with the rapist anyway (aka seme). I feel like there is bias towards seme rapists and are given a free pass and are usually praised at the end of the series but if they weren't the seme they would be trashed upon.
I'm just saying one (a bit embarrassing, maybe) thing: I like reading non consensual things because it's one of my biggest fantasies and it excites me a lot. That doesn't mean, of course, that I think rape is ok or that I desire to be raped. It's just something I fantasize about, therefore I like seeing it in a story. Doesn't matter if the rapist i...... 4 reply
it's funny because fujos will hate on a m/f story with a female being raped but than turn around and say how "hawt" and "sexy" a rape scene between two males is. Like, i'm gonna need y'all to keep the same energy when it comes to rape in fiction. If you hate rape, hate it. If you like it, like it. But don't sit there and criticize when x gets raped...... 6 reply
These debates/discussions always make me laugh my ass off. You all do realize you're reading soft-core gay porn for women, right? Do you make a habit of deconstructing all the porn you consume? If yaoi isn't porn, why do so many readers hide it like it was their older brother's Penthouse Magazine? Maybe you've never been exposed to porn before? If ...... 6 reply
Yaoi fan girls in this thread are literally admitting to getting off on seeing gay men get raped, yet wonder why gay men are uncomfortable with fujoshis as a group 5 reply
As a queer person and rape victim, it really doesn't surprise me how often rape shows up in yaoi. I've been reading it for years now and it still disgusts me. People like to justify their fetishes by distancing themselves from it. It's "fiction". I see a lot of so-called psychologists in the comment section. I'm in university for psychology as well...... 10 reply
Fetishizing rape in fiction just fuels the rape culture. We are at the point where kinds are so used to read rape fiction they don’t even know the actual definition of consent. Just yesterday I saw a 10 years old was arguing how Yours to claim didn’t have rape since the mc liked the rapist. Will you guys still say fiction isn’t affecting real...... 3 reply
Well the thing is that it's fiction. In fiction, fictional things happen like pigs fly or zombie eats a vampire (idk) and rape is not fictional, neither is death or murder, yet sometimes it happen in yaoi as well ecchi, smut, yuri and any other mature content. To say that rape is wrong is absolutely true but, so is murder yet, people say murder is ...... 3 reply
If the rape is portrayed as it should be portrayed I'm fine with it. The victim remains a victim and a rapist remains a rapist, they do not get together. I think that some of the authors who write stories about rape and actually romanticize it just don't know what they're doing and didn't do their homework.
I saw a lot of people here comparing it...... 1 reply
