Do you guys realize how harmful yaoi/bl can be?
To start off, there is no problem with anyone reading these things. Yaoi and BL mangas and manhwas can tell great stories while showing representation of a historically marginalized group. However, I do have a problem with the fetishization and normalization of certain stereotypes of gay people. Along with the normalization of minors being exposed to graphic/inappropriate content. Both of these issues are very much present on this website and I want to know if people know and understand this. Seme/uke and top/bottom are regularly used in lists, thus simplifying characters to sex objects, along with some harmful gender stereotypes. The ukes and bottoms in these stories act in, what is consider traditionally, feminine ways. Mainly by being submissive, nice, quiet, etc. Semes and tops are view in more traditional masculine roles. Additionally, some of you guys are too young to be reading certain mangas and manhwas. It is not normal for a 13 year old to have a kink or a fetish already and to have read and seen stories with intense sexual content. For instance, Killing Stalking is not something that you should have read at 12 years old. This also goes to anime watchers too, Junjou Romantica and Love Stage are problematic but made for mature viewers not 11 year olds. Overall, do people know how bad sexualizing gay people and being exposed to graphic and inappropriate content can be? Are a majority of people here normal and understand how problematic some users questions, answers, and list can be? If you agree or disagree with my statements, let me know ^_^ Also, sorry for any errors.
Do you guys realize how boring this is getting? Yaoi isn't a realistic depiction of gay relationships. It isn't meant to be. It's written by and for women. The uke is the stand in for a female reader. It's not a gay stereotype. It isn't a gay fetish. It's a metaphor. Don't like it? Maybe because it's not for you. Maybe move on? Go back to your Wedn...... 3 reply
I think you're mostly addressing appropriateness and taking issue with the Seme/Uke tropes.
Minors reading BL: No, it is totally normal to be interested in sex and human bodies from a young age. Reading erotica is the safest way to indulge in and express an interest in sex. The problems occur when it's a child's ONLY sex education. BL is a bad wa...... reply
EDIT : Minors consuming 18+ content is their parents fault! You can’t blame the creators of 18+ content, they have a target market for their work and it ain’t kids! What you’re asking is for a PG rating on ALL content on the internet? A lot of parents fail at being parents, they had no business being parents in the first place! They are irres...... 2 reply
so i'm gay, and i feel that i should throw in my 2 cents here, i agree wholeheartedly that many children are too young to be consuming pornographic content. however, i would also be a hypocrite in saying that as i have been reading BL since i was about 10 when i first discovered it. although, i had a very good mother who taught me early on the diff...... reply
It can be harmful to simpletons who have no ability for independent thought. People like you give me the willies. It’s like you’re the product of a union between Invasion of the Body Snatchers and the novel 1984. reply
What you have said is valid and I agree with a lot of the clear-headed points made. I do think the BL genre as a whole is moving forward, even if only slightly, as there is a fair amount of non-toxic and healthy relationships being portrayed recently (although of course the problematic portrayals still do exist). Regarding the minors consuming BL i...... 1 reply
I would like to say I agree, well I do to the most part -except age thing. I'm 16 this year, but I view 18+ content for years now, like most of us do. So I just don't want to say "it's wrong to read while your age falls short!1!!1!" since I might as well eat sh*t then. Let's give a cute example.
Ofc it would be for the best if 13 old boy didn't wat...... 1 reply
Just so everyone knows, I am not against yaoi or bl and this post was mainly in response to things I have seen from young fans of this content. I read a lot of yaoi and bl too and I definitely did not expand on some of the ideas I mentioned enough. Also I don’t think it’s weird for 16 and 17 to read sexual content. Overall, just understand that...... reply
