seriously asking
there's always been this problem with yaoi and bl where readers who can't differentiate fiction and real life tend to fetishize gay people and homosexual relationships right? I also agree that this is a problem and people should stop doing this, but i've been thinking, aren't yaoi and bl just the same as any romance story, but with homosexual characters? Then, have we been fetishizing heterosexual relationships too as we read shoujo and romance stuff? not trying to offend anyone, just had this thought in the shower .-. i'm sorry if my wording is kinda off
Fetishization of any people group is bad. But bad representation of lgbt people and other marginalized groups, aka not straight cis people, can be the difference between getting rights and getting killed. 1 reply
I agree. Yaoi is similar to any other porn or anime or manga with sex out there. Because of cancel culture, it’s seen as evil. I’m gay and I don’t really care about it lol. Enjoy what u enjoy. reply
both are baaaad,, neither shoujo or bl are inherently unhealthy but people come onto more contact with straight relationships than they do gays and yknow it might create a certain outlook. that being said abusive relationships shouldn’t be romanticized no matter what relationship is portrayed reply
To me, being unable to differentiate yaoi/bl from gays in real life is not right. But then you definetly have a point that we do the same for heterosexual relationships : I think people just notice it less bc yaois have a more "negative" point of view on them since they're homosexual relationships (yes we r in 2020 and still facing such problems).
