So, essentially, I use exclusively tampons. Mainly since they last longer and are generally more comfortable for me.
I started out essentially with the same problem, I was too much of a pussy (ha get it) To put it on. One thing you can do is use lube. Which is what I did, and it worked just fine.
Don't feel pressured to have sex. Fun fact, lube ......
