Is being a fujoshi a bad thing?
Aight so I’m a queer girl who reads a lot of BL and GL mostly BL because there’s just more of it in general in comparison to GL, and even though it’s not the pinnacle of representation I feel like I can relate to it more compared straight romance manga. I feel like I’d consider myself a fujoshi because a fujoshi/fudanshi as far as I know is just a person who reads BL, but some people see fujoshi as creeps who fetishize gay men. Are those people just thinking of the few toxic fujoshi out there or is being any definition of a fujoshi a bad thing? As a girl who likes girls I don’t really care if guys read GL or watch lesbian porn or whatever as long as they don’t harass wlw couples and people, but idk if that’s how other people feel. What do y’all think? I just don’t want to be insensitive to any peeps out there ;3;
uhhh it's kind of a weird topic tbh. A lot of people get annoyed by the term fujoshi as in Japan that means rotten girl, and usually Japanese fujoshi tend to fetishize men. That connotation carried over to Western culture where it's more frowned upon due to society's values, Western views, etc. I used to call myself a fudanshi since that seemed to ...... reply
you can call yourself whatever you want, but fujoshi is a word with a negative connotation so I'd advise against it. You can just be someone that reads bl, you don't have to put a label on it reply

The word itself has a bad rep depending where you are or who you are with. My best friend and I read BL (I read GL sometimes) so I use the term fujoshi with her but with others I’d most likely just say I read BL, since I think in Japan fujoshi means rotten girl or something. And with all the fetishizing shit it’s stupid in my opinion. As a bi p...... reply
I think it really depends on the type of gay manga you're consuming. If it's not hyper-romanticizing rape, pedophilia, or abusive relationships, then it's fair game. But if, as a ciswoman, you always skip to the sex scenes then yes you fetishize gay relationships :/ Please don't do this, we do not like it. reply
I do call myself that but it do have a bad rep so elsewhere I mostly say I’m a bl fan so as not to make a bad impression on anyone. But you can choose to call yourself whatever you want! Label or not, reading mlm is absolutely fine and in the end we should all be able to enjoy what we wanna enjoy without fear of any negative stereotypes being cas...... reply
