Yaoi
Do you think yaoi (NOT bl/shounen ai) sexualizes and glamorizes gay relationships? I’m genuinely curious because some story’s are so so unrealistic. And some are just straight sex the entire manga. With no plot. (I understand it is strictly fiction.) I would like to hear opinions because, to be honest, I’ve gotten to a point where I’m just confused about what im reading. And I’m feeling mixed feelings about reading those story’s anymore. (Maybe the word I’m looking for is uncomfortable??) but anyways your opinion is very appreciated on this taboo subject. I know it’s a lot haha.
If you read Yaoi just because you think gays are sexy and man on man stuff is hot then it's definitely sexualisation.
There are some yaoi which sexualise abusive gay relationships and the concept of uke seme is also extremely stereotypical. Very rarely is Yaoi any realistic. Girls who read it just for smut and sex are just as bad as men getting of...... 1 reply
Honestly you could say the same about straight relationships. If you read about straight couples I could say you're sexualizing straight relationships, but that wouldn't make sense. Some idiots were dubbing BJ Alex side chapter of black haired dude fucking DG as he slept. I guess ever since that happened, it made me feel sick of Yaoi or anything sexual made me feel sick. Yes, I do believe it does, it’s exaggerating sex and the relationship, it’s unrealistic, it’s all like sex sex sex plot sex sex sex sex. Don’t get me ...... 1 reply

Yaoi does sexualize gay relationships and as a gay guy I don't think I'll ever understand why women are interested in reading sexualized stories about gay guys. I don't even understand how women writing stories about gays got so big that it became a popular industry. All of that is strange to me, I'm jus...... 2 reply
I think some yaoi fetishizes gay relationships the ones without any plots just smut all the time and where the characters are very stereotypically feminine or musculine. I don't like those ones. Even though most of the yaoi kinda is like that but there are also a lot of good ones. The ones I have read are either the uncomfortable ones or really goo...... 1 reply
