In Myanmar, today, the new goverment was elected. But, unhappy with the results, the military called it a fraud. Furthermore house arrested the new goverment, daw aung san suu kyi (who is a very iconic politician) and other political allies. They detained the other ministers. So basically, the military overthrew the goverment with a coup. Phone lines are down, wifi is okay now though, but many believe it will cut off as well.
Between the military's "right" to appoint 25% of the parliament and Aung San Suu Kyi's uh... interesting take on the military's actions in Rakhine, this is unfortunately probably the least surprising news I've seen in the past week.
But like, damn y'all were really fucked over. And *hard*, too. Seeing people genuinely being hopeful for Myanmar bac...... reply
