i haven't really had many LDRs because that seems stressful, but there was one person i made an exception for. she lived in miami so she was only three/four hours away, but i didn't have a car and she didn't have a car and my parents pretty much hate miami. i want to say i'd never do it again, because communication is terrible and i'm super insecure in relationships and it just mentally exhausts me, but there's that saying that distance makes the heart grow fonder and i think that's pretty true. you never know how much you really like someone until you're far away from them, and the distance reinforced most feelings i had because booooy let me tell u i was head over heels, about to spend $100 just to uber down to miami (joking, but if it was possible i would've). we're not together now, because as most LDRs go we broke up, and the whole basis of our breaking up was too many misunderstandings, too poor communication. in the end you end up really wishing you could've seen them more, or spoke more, and it leaves a kind of bittersweet feeling. LDRs grow you as a person though. they teach you how to express yourself, how to love someone vicariously through heart emojis and really sweet good morning texts or even just the importance of an 'i love you' or phone call. if i ever get in another LDR, it's going to be my goal to see them more, call them more, minimize the misunderstandings. i was young and kind of immature then, but now i'm older AND i have a car... so i guess you could say i'm better equipped for the task.
