Can someone explain to me why homophobic people are just really ignorant?

It's not okay to ridicule someone just because of how they identify. And no, gay people do not dress like girls or act like a girl. A gay person could be dressed and act like a "normal person" and a lot of people probably wouldn't even know it. A gay person does not just wear makeup or wear feminine clothing.

I came across a homophobic person the other day. They were telling me that all gays dress the same and act the same. I was so shocked. I was seriously this close to slapping him through the screen. He told me that I was gay. I told him that I was pansexual and he laughed at me, telling me that it was the same thing. No, it's not. All sexualities are not the same as being gay. I asked him about what he would do if one of his friends turned out to be gay or LGBTQ+. Unsurprisingly, he told me that his friends were straight. Like, my guy.. You never know. There are PLENTY of closeted people who identify as LGBTQ.

This guy continued to attempt to defend his thoughts about LGBTQ. He told me that all gays wear makeup and wear feminine clothing. Literally...many musical artists and famous celebrities these days wear makeup, including men celebrities. Are they gay? No. Well, not a lot of them.

He even said that people who identify as LGBTQ don't deserve a pride month. We don't even deserve a day.

He never responded to me a few minutes after he started the fight. That was so disappointing. I can't believe someone around my age really believes all of this. Maybe he was just trolling? Still, that wasn't a funny troll.

So, can someone please explain why some people are just really ignorant about LGBTQ?
