People fine with rape in yaoi = hypocrites?
So I've seen people complaining about rape and people complaining about the people bitching about rape but lately I wondered whether the people who didn't mind rape in yaoi are hypocrites.
I get the impression that people don't mind rape if it's not violent (eg. beating, torture) and isn't treated seriously in the story but what if the one who raped the uke is not the seme but some other random guy? would you guys still say that rape is okay? If it was during the beginning of the story and the seme and uke have yet to develop feelings for each other but the uke was vanilla raped (not violent) would you think that it was fine?
I don't know, the main argument that people who are fine with rape in yaoi usually say things like - "it's fiction" or "it always happens in yaoi anyway" but I think they're fine with it because the uke usually ends up with the rapist anyway (aka seme). I feel like there is bias towards seme rapists and are given a free pass and are usually praised at the end of the series but if they weren't the seme they would be trashed upon.

So, what would you call people who love watching killers themed movies?? Psycho? After all, killing people happen in real life and it's such a horrible act. Does that mean they are okay with that?
What would you call people who love watching BSDM? You might say, that's just a play and people involved in that fandom doing things with consent...... 6 reply
Rape is the plot point that lazy authors use to bring """spicyness""" or whatever in their BLs, and they can't even write it properly most the time. You're not a hypocrite if you're fine with it when it's actually written like it actually is, but you're a cuntless bitch if you don't see anything wrong with sexual abuse being glamorised for sexy poi...... 7 reply
I don't care about the rape trope much, I personally find it a lazy way to advance the plot as a writer myself but people are right, it is just fiction. At the end of the day it's a story, it's not deep, people will read what they like. reply
lol you lowkey called people who read the trope (like me) sickos? lmao. It's pretty bold to assume that people who read such a trope are actually okay with something like that. If i were to answer personally, i half the time don't care about the trope whilst reading not because it's 'always there' or its 'just fiction' but because the subject is ne...... 1 reply
Putting it that way yes, it’s extremely hypocritical. I think if it’s not violent then people usually give it a free pass. I don’t care if it’s yaoi or hentai or whatever, as long as the characters are hot they will ALWAYS get a free pass. There’s this double standard I’ll never fully understand.
But I also wanna add that, I don’t ca...... reply
Who the hell came up with this dumbass question? Seriously, start interacting face-to-face with real live people. It really is so stupid, it’s hard to think up an answer that would be understood by you, but I’ll give it a try. Was there ever something you wanted? As simple as a piece of candy or a phone, and you thought about taking it? Stealin...... reply
Even if it's fiction, rape is still rape, and in so many yaoi/BL's there's some kind of rape situation even if it's not the violent type it's still rape. So real world example: A 12 year old starts reading yaoi with rape in it, without realizing it's rape. This kid will start thinking that non-consensual sex is okay, and will just continue on readi...... 2 reply
I feel like some people read my post wrong *face palm* when I mentioned 'other random guy' I meant a character in the story not in real life. I'm not questioning rape in real life but in the story.
I know in the end everything is fiction so I'm not really bothered by the rape but in my post I was questioning whether people are hypocrites for think...... 2 reply
