I started reading the omegaverse trope in fanfiction. As like some weird byproduct of werewolves, but the writers didnt want to write werewolf stories or it was like “imagine… Sherlock Holmes… but MPREG?!?!?” I very much said “…ok. Let’s go i guess” And the omegaverse in the fanfics i read is always so good… like theyre both pining over each other and need like some extra help to get together… “hey look, conveniently timed heat.” And omega makes some off handed comment about how their heat is coming and they need to do it alone or find a one night stand… and then the alpha is like “i can help” and we go from there. And usually the heat isnt even so bad that the characters just completely lose their mind to lust. They take care of each other and talk and take breaks… But guess what i discovered 5 years after discovering omegaverse in fanfiction. Omegaverse in manga and manhwa etc. And all i was reading was just the familiar fanfic tropes: - discrimination against omegas which always just feels like “ok but what if men did what women did and had a special word for them??? Would you still be sexist?!?” And the answer is always just “yes” - oh and omegas are always at the bottom of society bc… what if they weaponize their heat and then leech you of child support!!! Like an alpha doesnt go into rut ever -alphas are rude, rich, prideful, and the top of society -betas are just… regular people But for some reason, in all the comics, they authors tend to use the heat as an excuse to get the leads to have sex and begin a relationship instead of just… having them begin it normally. We dont need a bunch of heavy handed alphas and meek omegas getting together simply because the omega somehow convinces themself theyre in love… and the alpha finds the omega cute… for resisting? Struggling? And then the alpha just genuinely falls in love??? Seriously? So I wouldn’t say Omegaverse is a no. I would instead say, some authors need to stop writing omegaverse. Because they always make it weird and reinforce those terrible josei smut tropes of forceful male lead with meek woman… but even moreso bc of a forced power dynamic. Sometimes it makes me wonder if i asked certain writers to make a power bottom, if their brains would break. Like some authors would obviously be able to do it, but other authors would just default to “the man” having all the power And dont get me started over the stories that have the man simp bc… of something beneficial to them??? And then he found out he has a child with his Angel and wants the baby mama happy (im looking at you Love is an illusion and Surge towards you) All this to say, i love omegaverse a lot. Especially in fanfiction. Im not as big of a fan with comics, but i there are still some comics i like… like To make an omega mouse squeak or whatever it’s called
