Don't understand why toxic love interests are so popular
Never did get it. I just don't understand why someone who is actively mean to you, sometimes even hurt you is so appealing. Is it because they're hot? Well there a lot of hot characters why it's those guys specifically. And I'm not like those puritins "you can't like bad characters" it's just that those toxic ML are usually just that, have no interesting personality without being toxic and possessive.
Like I remember being young and trying Maid Sama because it was popular and dropping it immediately because main dude is an ass and hard to watch. Yet he has so many fans, I don't get it

I think that there are a few reasons they are so popular.
Sometimes those really well constructed villains can be relatable and/or even a source for empathy. Their own backstories are so twisted we can understand how they turned out as they did and we can’t help but to wish them a different path to step onto.

idk who popularized it, but I know Hollywood has some influence in it with the male stereotype should be dominant and should have no weakness while the female should be the submissive, emotional, damsel in distress. People just followed the trend and I hate it so much as a kid when I saw tad bits of scenes in boys over flower. The songs there is ic...... reply
I agree. I hate how normalized straight up abuse has become in manga/manhwa. I don't get how people find toxic relationships cute or interesting. All I can think about is how traumatizing the relationship would be if it was real TT reply
