So a while ago a classmate from finance management class tapped my shoulder to ask this "Hey I noticed you were reading a manhwa earlier. What were you reading?"
"Kill Switch."
"Ohh nice what's the genre?"
"Yuri."
There's dead silence and I can see the guy beside her purse his lips and look away. I immediately regret it. I'm never telling anyone again I know this is stupid to worry over but I just wanna know if it was a bad idea to say that? I might've made them uncomfortable HAHSHASDJS
Nah just own it. You were upfront, that’s bold and admirable. Some may judge but who needs people like that? Others will admire your confidence (nobody needs to know you are screaming on the inside lol). Besides, why should you be made to feel shame? So what, they asked, you gave your answer. If they're uncomfortable that's on them for not being able to handle someone else reading a particular genre. If you weren't reading any NSFW scenes there really shouldn't be a problem. And if someone is immediately associating yuri with being inherently sexual (..which it's not, it's more of a general ter...... reply
Tbh I think the unwritten rule when talking abt manhwa to ppl irl is u don’t discuss the smut u read. Cuz like it’s basically porn and not socially acceptable to talk abt in most places in most countries I’d assume, unless ur sure the other person is also down for that conversation. I don't think there's anything wrong with answering truthfully. Maybe they were homophobic, then that's their problem and not yours!
That being said though. I am a lesbian and I would never admit to reading 'yuri', I would much rather say I read comics about gay women or something like that. Which seems ridiculous, I know, because that's exactly ...... 1 reply
