Does the BL genre suck now? Or am I just maturing....
I'm not crazy about it anymore, but I like it, and do get invested in such stories, such as Given, sorta/Heartstopper (ion watch the show, just the webtoon)/and ig the Gumlee moments were cute lol. I still rewatch Yuri on Ice, and write my own BLS as a hobby, which focus more on social issues/drama honestly.
I just always roll my eyes whenever rape comes up, and it's brushed aside very easily, and never dealt with correctly, unlike in Banana Fish for instance, or I suppose Heartstopper too... No rape happened, but this one guy forced himself on Charlie w a kiss, and didn't become his love interest or anything like that.... He was very disliked by the author, which was nice to see.
I just really hate when characters who do rlly bad things (rape), are romanticized by the author??? (looking at you Jinx) and the fandom r ok w it... Like srsly??... Also the artstyles recently look rlly bad too... I cannot get into them. I don't mind the typical uke/seme artstyle, but yeah.
Anyone else feel the same? Mby it's just us feeling tired of these oversused formulas in stories...
I've been feeling the exact opposite. I feel like the BL genre has gotten better recently. Sure, if you just see the popular mainstream stuff, it's full of sex filled, mediocre rape fantasy stories, but during the last few years I've seen a lot of amazing BLs release, stuff which are infinitely better than the queer content I saw as a kid. wasn't bl always been this way, take okane ga nai or any 90's/2000's bl, it is filled with rape, nothing new, bl has just gotten more popular over the years 2 reply
Idk I've always loved the cringe stupid highschool sweethearts trope. Those usually have little to no sex in them so its not overwhelming. I never get sick of those, so cute reply
The golden age of bl ended, now its just the same old r4ape scenes and a pinch of shitty character development. I be talking about bl nowadays that are almost as mainstream as banana fish and yuri on ice on their glory days 2 reply
I think it’s bc a lot of the recent BL stories just end up w the same tropes and typical art style so much to the point it get old and just plain boring. And for sure I’d say stories like Given and Banana Fish are hard to come by nowadays. But I’d totally recommend Pink Heart Jam def a good read and nice artstyle. reply
I think y'all are just searching incorrectly. I can always find good and rape-less BLs, be it old ones or new ones, and I'm saying this as someone who's read about 3k comics on this site. Look through lists, go through tags, my newest technique is asking or lurking in the questions that are in the bottom of the mainpage, just follow anything that l...... reply

I suggest you read this manhwa though the concept is dark its very funny and well less sexual, infact it's very wholesome. It can get dark from time to time read at your own discretion ^^
