Opinion on rival ukes?
What do you guys think about love rivals for the uke, like uke characters who are interested in the main seme and act as hurdles for the main seme. Personally speaking, i HATE them because they're just a gender swapped yaoi version of the very regressive very annoying female love ribal characters from shoujo/josie where they usually fight for a man which is so annoying. This women fighting for a man trope evolved into two bottoms fighting for a top which really exemplifies how much BL has become a heteronormative industry I really don't want this annoying trope to follow into BL so I drop any BL which has this trope
I agree. It really just enforces lateral violence, making both the ML, but moreso the third-party/rival uke seem pathetic when (more often than not) they are just misunderstood. Worst trope ever, more often than not is jsut made for unecessary drama, it’s basically the gender swap version of two women fighting for the same man, and I hate it!!! I haven’t read a single story where the trope actually makes the characters more nuanced or interesting 1 reply

I hate rival characters in general but I like rival ukes WAY MORE than rival semes because I just like ukes and they're usually way prettier than semes. After a certain point they usually get their own relationship anyway so they become tolerable.
