Why are BL-genre glorifying TOXIC relationships?
Something I'm thinking about more and more these days is how common it is with BL mangas/manhwa/webtoons etc. that it glorifies toxic relationships. Now I am not referring to rape alone (even if it is included in the list), but everyday red flags, e.g. controlling, being a jerk/asshole and manipulative, but the story presents it as positive qualities. I'll admit I've read and liked stories with these points e.g. 'BJ Alex' so I'm not innocent, but in my defense the reasons are either I think Seme has "made amends" for his past or smut ╮( ̄▽ ̄)╭
It is different if the story contains a toxic relationship that makes it clear that the relationship is harmful e.g. No Holes Barred (Not BL)
In most stories, movies, books, and manhwas it’s seen as “hot” to have an attractive, toxic, and probably abusive male lead. It sells no matter what generation. Most BL is written by women for women ex. How the uke and seme are drawn big and buff seme who can “protect” the uke and small big-eyed uke who needs a dick to think. People are d...... reply
