why do ppl xeno their gender

okay anyways. xenogenders get a lot of flack for sounding weird but i think the issue is a lot of ppl think they're equivalent to genders expressed through western gender spectrums which isn't actually how it works. xenogenders are like metaphors basically! they are not entirely a new concept because trans ppl have had unconventional gender identities (by modern standards) since the dawn of time. american queers in the 90s have had labels like "anachronous simulsanguesexual literary faerie (gyrl)" and "twin-spirited extraterrestrial". are they identifying as being physically faeries and aliens? no. but those labels best describe how their gender feels. xenogenders are the exact same thing only more standardized as a concept.

if it'll hit ygs more: yk how cis ppl equate being masculine to being like the sun or the ocean and being feminine to being like the moon or the earth? it's the same concept. if you have gendered concepts of literally anything that is also pretty much the same thing. cis ppl use nouns and objects to describe their own gender all the time. that's pretty much what xenogenders are. they're just metaphors for gender identities that aren't in the gender binary. they're more common amongst neurodivergent ppl because they're more likely to perceive the social construct of gender differently and use xenogender labels to more accurately represent their gender.

example: i am agender. i feel detached from the physicality of being a man or a woman or anywhere along that spectrum. i feel a sense of nothingness when thinking about my gender identity. metaphorically i could describe that feeling as a void and identify as voidgender because that void would encompass how my gender identity feels to me. that does not mean i'd identify as a void or feel dysphoria from not physically being a void. it means i'd think that best describes my agender identity. personally i'm fine just calling myself agender but yeah you are never too far from a xenogender that could fit you
