Under-appreciated story settings or plot devices?

Tell me some of your under-appreciated settings or plot devices you wish were more frequently used!
Anything from an overarching world setting, over situations they meet in to detailed plot devices like stumbling and nearly falling but being caught by the love interest (which is such an actually old cliche now that i think about it).

Pretty sure we've all come across something that's good in stories but seldom used.
