What problems do you have with scanlation groups?
Disclaimer: We are appreciative for every group’s hard work and time, this is just a free space to talk about some criticisms we may or may not have! And no group is being targeted. I’ve never been apart of a scanlation group (so do tell of your experiences if you have any) but I’m in many discord servers and it seems that some groups just TAKE THEIR TIME releasing chapters (I’m particularly talking about the popular ones) because they know it’s popular and people are going to wait for it regardless of time. (Like I’m talking about having the chapter done and waiting to release it just because.) While I accepted this, it suddenly becomes an issue when people get sniped and then the group has this huge problem and starts drama. Like what did you expect when the raws have been out for months and you took forever? Also they will ban for asking when a chapter will be released! Like that is so unfair. Groups will also take on more projects, despite already being spread thin, and make releases even slower... what sense does that make?! I’ve just noticed a lot of things I can’t say on discord without getting ban or attacked, so do you guys have any criticisms or defenses that you want to say about scanlation groups?
I really do appreciate the work that they put into translating manga’s but some groups/one person translating just end up into some google-translated shit that you can’t even read bc the translated shit is written on top of the raws. 3 reply
I am extremely grateful to scanlation groups for providing us with chapters for free. This is very nice of them. The only thing I sometimes dislike is when the watermark is waaay too big and it gets put into inconvenient places. It can block your reading and be a bit uncomfortable ╮(￣▽￣)╭ But that doesn’t happen way too often. In most ...... reply
While it would be nice if they would put up some indication of when they think they will have upcoming chapters ready, they are doing this for free, or even worse, at their own expense (raws, mangas, not free) and people whining is going to get old really fast. I know this because I did work for a non-profit, I received no pay, used my vacation ti...... 1 reply
I’m only grateful that they are doing this work. It’s weird that this question came up, because I was just thinking how nice it is that people from around the world are collaborating to work without any tangible compensation, for the sake of other fans. It makes me feel good to know that, gives me a sense of community. Any complaints would seem...... 1 reply
Groups getting mad at the readers. As in, when a different group releases the same chapter, the main group gets mad at the readers for reading it??? I believe this happened with Duchess with an empty soul, the group got mad and translated chapter 30 and chapter 30 only, but we only read up to chapter 20 or 21 and i was like...;-; I guess just unnec...... reply
