Shipping

I always see discourse and stuff about shipping and how people say it ruins fandoms and there’s always issues and arguing around it, so I just wanna give my opinion on how I feel about it.

Tbh, I probably the definition of that “shipping> actual plot” meme that people use to hate on shippers, but like lowkey, I don’t feel like it matters much.

I genuinely enjoy shipping a lot, sometimes it gets to a point where I’m more invested in a ship than the actual story itself. I love how complex some relationships can be, and I feel like it’s even better when they aren’t cannon.

I don’t get why people hate on ships as long as they’re legal and just not too weird, yk? Like there’s plenty of characters I can only see as siblings and people ship them, or I just don’t see them being together period, but I don’t really care if people ship them together if it’s a perfectly legal ship cause it literally doesn’t effect me and I can just ignore it.

I don’t get the “they’re just friends” argument either, like, it’s precisely BECAUSE of their close bond and deep feelings for each other that people ship that dynamic, and wouldn’t it be better that rather than two people who don’t care for each other in the slightest? Not even in the enemies type of way, but they just genuinely could give less of a fuck about the other person.

Adding onto that, I love the enemies to lovers trope a lot, or just the dynamic where on or both hates the other. I find it so interesting in how they could possibly come to share an actual bond other than hate, and I love how some amazing writers out there can put that into words and I’m able to read it(I’m mainly talking about Janka rn cause like, Jabber is obsessed with Zanka and wants Zanka to fight him and get better and win against him but also wants to kill him, while Zanka has a pure hatred for Jabber, but also has a twisted connection with him too, and AUGH the fics are so good)

I mainly just HATE people who are anti shipping like why do you hate fun most of them only hate the gay ships and say it’s unrealistic while shipping a man and a women who literally have absolutely nothing to do with each other and zero tension simply because they’re a man and a women(I don’t hate ships like these btw, I just dislike the majority of people who ship them)

ALSO, there’s those people who ship two men together simply because they don’t like the women, or because a white man has a black female love interest and they can’t stand it so… WHICH HURTS ME BECAUSE IM A BIG JAYVIK SHIPPER BUT LOTS OF THEM ARE RACIST AND IT MAKES ME LOOK WERID BUT IM NOTTTTT, I love Mel and any other ship she’s in(like the cannon meljay, I can’t stand meljayvik tho, no hate to the people who ship them).

Omg and I also hate when people mischaracterize ships so they fit a certain trope they want. Like how in Janka, they make Zanka a fem twink and Jabber a big buff seme like nooo that’s not how they are they are practically equal in hight and body type with Jabber only being about two inches taller, he’s extremely scrawny too like… I feel like some of this is rooted in racism and stereotypes too cause they just can’t ever see a black man as the submissive one and he has to be big and scary and dominate over the pale and pretty Zanka. Pmo.

Also, one last thing, SHIPPING MAKES A FANDOM. Without us shoppers a fandom wouldn’t exist. How boring it would be to not have fun and ship people, especially when the ship makes no sense.
