Do you guys think you’re entitled to read manga illegally?
I’ve been seeing a couple of questions and answers recently about people saying they’re justified in reading manga illegally, because they’re broke. And you have cases of illegal readers proudly sharing illegal screenshots of mangas with the authors, probably because they see no wrong with it.
I wanna know if you guys think that way, or if you’re like me: I know I’m a shitty person for illegally reading, but I do it anyway and try to be discreet (keeping discussions to just mangago).
Imo saying you’re not wrong for pirating manga is a fuckload of mental gymnastics, you can always just NOT read it. You’re fucking up someone’s livelihood and it’s not like manga artists earn a shit ton - the least you can do is admit that instead of trying so hard not to proce you aren’t a bad person and the author somehow owes you their work. Like I’m a broke college student who lived out of my car for two years, never once did I think “ohh yeahhh I am so entitled to read manga illegally, it’s my god given right”
Agree with this. I am not completely pirating stuff though, when I like the work, I'll buy it and read it officially. When I don't have enough money, I'll read it here and then buy it when I have extra. That's just how I roll.
I also don't understand how crazy illegal readers are towards authors, esp in Twitter. Obviously they are not gonna fuck ...... reply
I’m not against pirating of any kind (esp with companies becoming more and more anti-consumer) nor am I against if you get caught and an author wants you to pay a fine (within reason). I think it is backwards to try shame or feel your on a higher moral ground just because you are either anti-piracy OR considered yourself “a bad person” from c...... reply
ngl i reallt don’t care. like reading illegally takes from artists and at the end of the day it is wrong, but i do not care. yes it is wrong, i’m not gonna argue with the artists or writers when i steal their work, but it’s easy to access and free. i don’t think most people feel entitled to reading maga online, even if manhwa got spread fas...... 1 reply
No, it is as if saying im justified to do whatever I want illegally bc Im broke, I wish I did have the resources to support the authors, and I cant really stop reading bc mangas/manhwas are one of the few things that bring me confort and calm my constant anxiety, but at least soon im doing my interships and getting paid so im looking forward to rea...... reply
I read here and then buy the stuff I like, it saves me money and means I’m only supporting the artists I like. If I could so see it legally in a shop before deciding, I’d do that, but that’s possible especially with the stuff that’s not even translated.
I don’t blame people for pirating it though, I just wish they’d stop shouting abou...... 1 reply
I personally think it's really braindead when readers proudly broadcast pirated screenshots etc bc imagine how those Korean authors feel who end up in the hospital bc of how hard they work on illustrations for them to end up with so many readers just reading for free. I imagine it's honestly like a slap in the face, same for mangakas asw. I still p...... 1 reply
