Queer literature by straights
Someone asked a question on here about straight actors whether they should be allowed to play queer roles (I believe they should I gave my reasons under the question) now that question had me thinking 1. Should straight writers be allowed to write queer romances? 2. With the raise of queer romance in mainstream media are the straight authors writting the queer works doing it from a place of good faith or are they just in it for the money or they just straight up what to produce pay gorn
This is how I feel when people complain about how straight people cannot write queer stories even though even if a story is written by queer people, people would still find a reason to complain about. There are queer people who think their experiences are one and only and universal and anything beyond that is unrealistic. Queer people aren't a mon...... 4 reply
I mean, gatekeeping queer media from straight people will only lead to its demise; it will always be underrepresented. BL just shows that queer romance can be successful and popular and also profitable, thanks to BL, we started seeing more representation in video games, anime, and manga. So no, I'm not against straight people creating queer romance...... reply
Should they be allowed? Well you can't really regulate that so personally I think is whatever. An author can be good at writing romance and chemistry between characters even if they aren't queer, like you see shonen mangakas being able to develop male friendships that have an unmatched chemistry yet they fall short in making romantic pairs for thei...... reply
1. hot take but i think anyone should be allowed to write about anything they want as long as it's not illegal material or in bad faith. good stories can come from anywhere and by anyone. it shouldn't be gated by personal identity, a good story should come from a place of empathy, research, and skill, regardless of background. limiting who can writ...... 1 reply
1. That depends on the writer. Alot of straight writers, write queer romance either too sexually or too cringey. Honestly no shame on them as long as they do it for the quality than the money.
2. If straight men, 80% chance it's for the money. Some women do it for the love of the game and also cus like its obvious within BL series we see from these...... reply
there is something about how straight ppl write queer literature that rubs me the wrong way. if you reads/ watched heated rivalry. you've seen everything that the genre has to offer. they bang. in denial about their sexuality the whole time. one fall hard and the other stays in denial. and they accept themselves after a decade long situationship th...... 1 reply
oh i LOVE queer stories by straights (sometimes);;; Virgin's Empire? golden;; half the yaoi i read? real shit;;; as for intentions, that wildly depends on the author so i'd have to judge by the individual works themselves;;;;
BUT!!! BUT!!!!! if they make shit like Adan (2019) they lose ball privileges, AND dick privileges, AND prostate privilege...... reply
1. I'm personally of the belief that you can write almost anything as long as you do the necessary research and study so that you can properly depict the topic. Straight people can write queer romances if they do the proper research into queer people and queer relationships. They would have to write with sensitivity in mind and also probably consul...... reply
