Dating advice pwese

How do you date?? I only properly (kinda) dated 1 person and it failed miserably and idk how to go about it now... TT . Like do i actually have to say " will you be my gf or amth like that to someone??? Or do i just wait till someone else makes a move ....Helppp im not confident that the smuts ive read is practical lol.
