I think as readers we have lost the ability to actually use our brains. Most of these bls that are considered dark romances/horror aren't disturbing or even scary. They're just edgy and violent, usually when I read a well written disturbing story it makes me think, maybe about my own biases or just give me different perspective on something usually not said out loud due to backlash but i doubt these bl authors intended to use topic such a rape, incest and CSA to give out any kind of message that might make the readers uncomfortable but actually think for more than two seconds. All i see is the authors barely disguised rape kink.

I used to hate dark romance but then I read MADK and I realized I didn’t hate “dark romance”, I hated rape slop that people hype up as really deep and revolutionary but it’s just a toxic rapist seme and helpless uke trope for the millionth time in a row

I wanna add that people are incredibly capable of liking disturbing stories when they're well written and written with respect it's not just readers being sensitive reply
There's some rare cases where they do make you think a bit like some Asada's stuff, Haruka Tooki le, A Cruel God Reigns, Stigma, Saezuru Tori wa Habatakanai, MADK. But there's something important about all those stories: THE AUTHOR IS GOOD. THEY KNOW HOW TO WRITE, IF YOU COVER TOPICS LIKE THIS, KNOW HOW TO WRITE BEYOND WATPAD LEVELS.
