Ahh the newest victim of the invisible notifs. You get notified everytime someone makes a question/experience. I'm at 10565. Haven't seen whatevs in a while but they must be at twice that amount now.
I think anytime you answer a question it automatically makes you follow the question but you can unfollow it by scrolling down all the answers of the question then you should see "unfollow the question" if you click that you'll stop getting notifications for the question

But tldr: it's just because there's more users joining here. When a site/server has toooo many people it will get laggy. Specially when this site isn't built for a massive amount of users.
