Companies think if they shut sites down that they’re gonna make all that money on their own now….who’s gonna tell them no one has enough money to pay for every chapter of every manga out there

"meet the potential sale!"

no it's fr annoying to see them froth at the mouth at those hypothetical numbers as if the people who pirate will / can buy it legally.
if they don't pirate, they won't touch it, they wouldn't know about it.

also even if those who read pirated can buy it, most of these manga and manhwa is not translated. asking international reader to buy a product they can't even use/understand "just to support the author" (most of that money go to the company) is just cruel

Yeah, I agree. If most readers are turning to piracy then maybe they need to look at themselves and ask why readers are seeking other platforms & try to find out what they’re doing wrong. If they want the sales from people overseas then they need to cater to them as well and provide translations. Most people also can’t afford to buy weekly chapters for the 50 mangas that they read, it’s just not realistic. The numbers that they want are just never going to happen for them. I’m not sure what they could do to fix this and still be able to pay their artists fairly, but I’m sure that there must be a better method that the one they have right now. . And yeah, if you suddenly get rid of all illegal websites, that doesn’t mean that all people are suddenly going to turn to you with their money. A very small portion will, and the rest will just move on to find a new website

they can start by being less greedy... but in this age of capitalism I doubt it.

its very unfortunate for the authors. wether people pirate their work or not they're still being paid with pennies while the company making billions from their hard work. and if piracy no longer exist, their work wouldn't spread as much and less people would know about it

They wouldn't have gained any money without piracy that made their stuff popular. Their loss is just a fantasy number.b

Man I'm ngl, I only ever got to know of the existence of all these works from illegal sites and I didn't even know of the 'legal' ones before I made an account here. Piracy sites do a shit ton of marketing (dare I say, most of it) and people who can afford to/want to spend money will do it anyway.

Danmei Reader January 30, 2026 2:59 am

You’re right, I’ve literally found out about 95% of the works I’ve read bc of websites like these

asley January 29, 2026 6:07 pm

i srsly cant blame them but the thng is they will lose more money than earning lol

Ambien_the_Dreamer January 29, 2026 6:06 pm

Companies have the right to demand money but they cannot stop piracy from happening.

If readers have extra money to spend, I am sure they will spend on their reading list with the economy killing us by inflation, little are spending on non essential items, including digital copies
