i wanna cut (meta) socialmedia out of my life, but ik that if smth happens in the world, it spreads quickly via those apps (which is good and bad - bad bc of misinformation, good bc our media/news outlet don't talk about certain things or twist it to make - for example - Israel look good) + a lot of artists & fandoms i follow, are active on there. another point is, the amount of brainrot, the misinformation & that fuckass algorithm etc taking a toll on my mental health - everytime i delete those apps, i feel so much better and get more stuff done (but i feel like i'm missing out on important stuff thats going on in the world)
would love to know, whether anybody can recommend any websites, forums, apps, news outlets etc - i already heard about upscrolled & bluesky, but i wanna know about more potential options
my goal is to connect more with other people/fandoms/artists & to stay updated on whats happening in the world (i feel so bad for having insta deleted rn with all thats going on rn, but i can't go on like this anymore)
upscrolled. it's fairly new and it might take some time to curate your tl but it's all about who you follow. i still use insta more but the ppl i follow on upscrolled keeps me updated. reply
You don't need to do that at all, or cut out any social media. It's just how you use it. Algorithms only respond to which you give it, I heavily curate what I consume, and that's not to fight against some system or whatever bullshit reasons people are coming up with nowadays. If you're looking to specifically connect with more people then I recommend seeing if there is a Discord server that is specifically for your area. For example I have met a lot of people through a local meet up Discord server, some of them in person. Most of social media is awful, you can block those contents from appearing in your feed. I get so distressed too seeing the shitty fake news being spread and ppl falling for it. Lowk use mgg as a social media site idk. It’s got manga/hwa/hua, a decent ish kind of sometimes not really community, and theres plenty of fun ppl here. reply
