Any atheist around here?
I have a couple of questions for atheists. Why did you leave your religion? What made you realize that God or someone above you was not real? What is your overall opinion on religion and religious people? How did you tell your parents?
I wanted to ask these questions as another atheist because where I live, most people are either Muslim or Christian and I have never met anyone who doesn’t believe in those religions and has the same beliefs as me. I started deconstructing religion only a few months ago and left my religion, so I want to hear others’ experiences.
if God would send someone kind to hell solely because they didn't worship him they aren't a god I'm willing to worship. It doesn't matter to me if they exist or not, even if they do exist, the Gods offered to me have not had the same values as I do and their "children" have repeatedly dragged their name through the dirt to justify rape and murder....... reply
Im an atheist, but when I read your questions it made me think I had it quite different from others.
I never had to leave a religion, my parents never brought me up a religion so I never grew up thinking of a God. I think I have always just know that there isn’t someone above tbh, even in school and we had to do RE on Christianity I just though...... 1 reply
My mother doesn't believe in anything spiritual or religious. It's funny because she knows the Bible pretty well (Bible studies as a child) + she loves reading about other religions + my father was a devout Christian (but very open minded).
Simply she just doesn't believe in God and says that people created religions in order to explain/understand ...... reply
I was raised Christian, and I stopped going to church 2-3 years ago. I just stopped believing that a god was out there because a bunch of bad stuff was happening, there wasn’t anything major that shook my beliefs. Sometimes I wonder if I ever actually believed in god, because I never really took Christianity seriously. I liked going to church bec...... 1 reply
I think i started thinking about it probability-wise. with 1000s of religions, it seems unlikely that the 1 single religion I chose is going to be the correct religion (which is probably too narrow-minded, but was enough to make me doubt religion altogether). historically, religion has also been weaponized to slow societal progression and instead r...... reply
I’m not an atheist, but I’m not a super firm believer either. I’m Hindu, and honestly, I kinda do love my religion, esp the actual scriptures and the Vedas. There’s a lot of teachings in them that really makes sense to me.About how women are seen. They’re worshipped as goddesses, as Shakti, the source of everything, the divine energy like...... reply
hi there. i used to believe in god with my life when i was a child. actually, i won't call it belief but like, yk, i saw people around me worshipping these entities and saying they do us good and all. but as i grew up, i realized how bleak that kind of thinking actually is. no hate to any religion or the believers, but i just don't see how anyone c...... reply
I'm an atheist, but technically still Jewish? (it's complicated lol) so I didn't "leave" per se. I just don't go to temple or practice the religion side of it. I only celebrate holidays when I'm with my family and they want to celebrate. For them, it's all about tradition. They're atheists too. I don't think I ever believed in a god, even when I ha...... reply
im agnostic, but i believe theres a hell for some ppl out here (www). i grew up in a religious household where if you miss a single sunday, you'd be shunned and b forced to repeat prayers again n again.
i read the bible cover to cover back then when i was idk, abt 10-12, and i never felt any connection w/ it. then, when i turned 14, i started to s...... reply
i started questioning religion in my early teens, around 13 or so. i live in a mildly conservative society with values that are deeply rooted in religion, and with time i started noticing that most of said values were forced on women but not men and that men could get away with a lot of things because women are described as "less whole" than men. a...... 1 reply
