Why do some people become a homophobe after already being an ally for some time?
So the thing is I had a few friends who used to support lgbtq and enjoy queer media, such as books manhwas or dramas. But they decided to repent and become "normal" all of a sudden. This one girl who I was very close with started reading bl and became an ally after discovering that I was queer and I was reading yaoi. She liked reading bl a lot and became an ally. It went like this for a year, she would always talk about yaoi manhwas and other lgbtq media. When we returned to school after the 3 months summer break, I tried to start a convo about some bl manhwas but she said "Listen, I decided to repent and won't read or support such things again. It's not normal and it's weird. Don't not talk about them, I'm not interested " I felt very upset cuz my ally friend whom I came out to became a homophobe. Like are you kidding me was that all a lie? No it clearly wasn't and she had made up her mind to support queer people long ago so why change all of a sudden? I think she deep down knows that there's nothing wrong with being gay and she really enjoyed queer media. Why deny something you had already come to terms with? It pisses me off so much that she now sees it as an anomaly and a mistake? Like girl you were the one reading fwop fwop squelch squelch every day

but genuinely, religious indoctrination especially at your age can be a very powerful weapon of control, especially from, say, adults closest to you responsible for your wellbeing. it's easy to assume your friends should've fought this kind of rhetoric from their family or communities, and you're not wrong to feel...... 1 reply
Sounds like it's because of religion. Maybe her family found out about it and she got a scolding.
I also had a friend before who I opened up to about being trans. She empathized with me at first, understood my struggles, and said she supported me. But she found out from her family that these things aren't allowed in Islam, so she told me after that...... 2 reply
People don’t just randomly flip like a switch. Something probably influenced her during that time. Family, beliefs, new environment, social media or even fear.
