Current state of korean webtoons is going downhill?
Hi y'all, this is an opinion based question. Anyone else feel that the quality of korean yaoi manhwa rn is going downhill? Many promising starts and then both plot and art go downhill from there and tend to end of unfinished or unresolved notes. Thoughts and reasons?
Imo this is partly attributed to the distribution of webtoons, in the format where one chapter is much shorter than a typical manga, and most operate in a pay per chapter state. This makes each chapter kinda clickbaity at times so you'll pay more and buy more. Hence dragging out the plot and ruining pacing.
Also is there a lack of traditional editors like in typical manga where the mangaka reviews the flow, storyline and plot before publishing?
In my opinion the main problem is that the plots often are very similar (cute uke, sexy seme, adorable moments, some childhood truama etc.) so I guess that after some time you might think "this again?", but I believe there are still some interesting products out there.
Maybe the difference with Japanese manga is that bl have existed for decades so...... reply
