My dog is missing and its all my dads fault

Ik this wont interest many ppl but I am so heartbroken, my dog ran away today and it had been few hours since then, we drove/walked around our neighborhood but didnt saw him , hes 9 years old and his eyesight isnt that great anymore so I am so so worried, in like an hour it will get dark here and what then.. and its literally all my dads fault, he was doing yard work infront of our house gate and saw my dog infront sniffing, but then forgot ab him and went ab his business, its been know we should watch out for him in cases like that, I am trying to be hopeful but i dont know, so I am asking if yalls dogs also run away and how much after did yall found em? we notifed municipal police, and made a post ab him on our neighborhood group :(
