adopting dogs as an idiot

genuinelywhatthefuck genuinelywhatthefuck 2026-05-14 20:15:54 About question
I'm a slob idiot who's never had pets but decided to adopt 2 Pomeranian's(both a month old) at the same time.

I seriously don't know the basics in taking care of them. I'm only cleaning their poops and feeding them milk.

long short story, I saw a mutual post online about selling their dogs(pomes) I got lonely and I bought them

1 month sounds really young. Idk about puppies, but 1 month old kittens are still drinking milk from their mom. It's not recommended for kittens to leave their mom until 8 weeks and even then many ppl who work with cats say it should be closer to 10-12 weeks for proper socialization. Those last few weeks with their siblings and mom are really helpful for learning how to behave and play without hurting each other.

If your puppies should still be with mom, I highly recommend buying puppy formula and adding it to their wet food. I see you mentioned something about diarrhea. That's probably because of the quick transition to a new food. Their tummies aren't used to it.

they'll be months next week but I do agree that they're both so young, they're siblings but I haven't heard any news about the mother cause all I saw was them being sold online.

I'm feeding them the milk for puppies and I also fed them wet foods(about to buy another pack cause I ran out)

my other puppy(nari) got diarrhea after I fed it powdered milkT-T But jer poop is getting better and better since it's been a week since I got her.

I just got back from the vet too, they'll get vaccinated when they turn 2months

You should bring them to a veterinarian to make sure they're okay as they seem pretty young, early separation can be bad for puppies. Anyway i recommend to get slow feeders and to not get those collars that retract (if you know what I'm talking about) get them toys and train them

genuinelywhatthefuck May 14, 2026 8:35 pm

I was thinking of taking them to the vet for vaccines but I'll make sure to get them checked as well! I just fed them by bowls but i'll buy the slow feeders too. is it okay to not get collars for the dogs? I have the toys and I was planning to get the one for teething but it says 3months old.. I really don't know a lot about this

Id say as long as they stay mostly at home no collars it's okay but as soon you start bringing them outside always (I mean ALWAYS) have them on a collar and a leash. I'll try making a bigger comment with more info so if you have specific question about anything let me know

I haven't taken them out since the apartment I live in has roaming cats and outside that are sick so I'm afraid that they might get infected... T-T I usually just keep them in my room cause it's pretty spacious and it's easy to clean when they poop. The hardest part is just training them ╥﹏╥ and sometimes it's tiring to clean cause After I mop the whole room, they'll go and pee under the bed.. so my question is - Can I make them wear pads even though they're just a month old? I'm potty training them and it obviously takes time but it really takes timeT-T.. I also fed the female dog a powdered milk.. I didn't get them at the same time and I didn't have a pet milk with me so I bought a powdered milk from a nearby store and fed nari(the female dog) since then, her poop is melted(?) I don't know the word for it but it's not the rocky type and it smells tooT-T I had no one to ask about this one, I searched it up online but I was doubting each post I saw... thank you so much though, you're a really great help

For now i think it's okay to keep them inside but you should start bringing them out, it's good for them, keep them on a leash tho always never go out without them on a leash. Powdered milk is not safe for puppies as it causes severe digestive issues like diarrhea and vomiting due to lactose intolerance so stop giving it to her! You can use nappies but remember to use them temporarily they can cause skin irritation or infections if not changed frequently, usually every 3–4 hours, id say it's just easier to potty training them and less of a waste of money.

I take them out sometime in the morning for vitamin D but I've just been carrying themT-T they're behave when carried so it wasn't so hard.

I only fed her the powdered milk cause I forgot to bring pet formula with me and she's been crying on our way home.. Her poop is getting better and better cause it's been a week since I fed her the powdered milk, I'm feeding them milk for puppies and wet foods( ̄∇ ̄") I bought a litter box for them but it hasn't been delivered yet, I have the pet pee training pad too T-T I'll get on training them more and more hopefully they'll start listening

Tonikaku May 14, 2026 8:21 pm

Always a bad idea to get pets on a whim, without doing any research. But since you have already got them, you are obligated to take good care of them. Dog subreddit is very helpful.

genuinelywhatthefuck May 14, 2026 8:25 pm

true. I've been taking good care of them(I think so) I've also searched online but I didn't know which to believe, what I followed was to feed them every 4hours...is that wrong? well.. it's all on me. anyways, I'll search taht up thanks a lott

If they are puppies, then yes, frequent small meals are recommended. Also check their medical cards if they have, if not, take them to the vet and get the cards made, also get them checked and vaccinated if they aren't yet. Play lots with them and check training videos on youtube, the earlier you start, the better, especially with poms, they are a stubborn breed.

yes I was gonna take them to the vet next week to get vaccinated. Thank youu. I always play with them and they're really clingy, the hardest part is just training them, specially when you're making them stop biting you

rilakkuma May 14, 2026 8:18 pm

Why were the puppies separated from their mother so early?

genuinelywhatthefuck May 14, 2026 8:20 pm

ohh.. that, I don't know... They were being sold online so I just bought them
