Recs like god of peace pls.
yes but omg wait idt my entire comment posted!!! i meant to say after that is that i recc bad pharmacy’s works if u haven’t read them already! she is the only other bl author i’ve read who writes to the same quality as god of peace. she actually writes for a literate, critical and mature audience and it shows esp in this slop-filled genre. thematically her stuff is pretty different from god of peace but in terms of characterization, narrative arcs and overall quality, i think you’d enjoy her works! my fave from her is declaration of revenge but her currently serializing manhwa is great too. also, she draws everything including background on paper which automatically makes her so impressive to me in a genre full of lazy art and writing
When I read them, would you mind if I talked about them with you? I don't really talk with anyone on this site. Majority of this readership doesn't facilitate a critically resonant and enriched discussion. I mean something like Thirst is rated higher than god of peace. Thirst!!! FR?? This readership cannot clock good writing if it hit them on their head. I dont take ratings seriously on this site or any BL reading site. I really like talking about stories so with your agreement, I would really like that.
Followed! Hahaha I mean shit, I happen to be a wittgenstein and camus fan myself so I get what you are saying!! I can't help but take stories seriously and it baffles me when people say - why you so triggered, it's just a story.
Like wayyyy to undermine the power of stories when they shape you from when your born to when you die. Everything is a story.
There's so much willing ignorance and lack of critical thinking in this genre, not just in the readership but also the creators. Today is a good day huh? )))
omg twin, i had a french philosophy phase, used to love camus (now im a bit more of a sartre fan….)
but i completely agree. my issue is that most bl authors narrate their stories in such a way that you get this sense that they WANT you to take it seriously. if that’s the case, it’d almost be insulting for us not to, even if that means critically disparaging the entire thing. like some bl are intentionally campy and unserious and i match my expectations accordingly (like i wouldn’t be sitting writing entire essays abt smth like my love mix up), but most aren’t like that, so imo it’s fair game to critique :PP
Hahaha I went from sartre to camus, though i highly appreciate both their writings. I read camus later in my life so it made me relate to his philosophy in a more nuanced light.
I absolutely agree with what you said about bl authors. Every story is fair game for a well balanced critique and I won't even leave someone like Isayama alone. Isn't that the point of storytelling anyway? The more granular your understanding is, the more you enjoy it, and the better the impact. I would say even campy stories need well balanced storytelling and strong characterisation for it to have the desired effect. Something like punch drunk love would obviously have more impact than something like 'the worst guy in the universe'. Bl manhwas have this trend, i recently came to know there's a term for it called fridging, or 'women in refrigerators', in BL's case, it's the uke. It involves female characters/uke receiving overwhelmingly disproportionate harm to serve as plot device and most manhwas are chock full of it. And I have come to hate it. For eg, legs that won't walk. The writer tells the story at the cost of uke's dignity and life at every single turn, like enough! Most of us have grown up seeing female characters in a majorly misogynistic global media written with this trope and while it's realistic, if you cannot justify it properly and thoughtfully, it becomes nothing more than a cheap, convenient and quite frankly, an offensive tool to justify the uke's general complacency and submissiveness. If you are going to pick up a serious & heavy theme, justify it properly and don't take the reader for a fool. If you do, it is also a fair game for critique but in my experience, it's far from well received by the readership heh.
Never had this much trouble telling who's who.
