wtf is a purist

Quanxis Simp Quanxis Simp 2026-05-31 10:30:08 About question
I've been seeing this phrase all over mangago now, and it doesn't make sense at all. I get the idea, but I feel like it's getting used for the wrong context. Cause what the fuck you mean I'm a purist for not liking** Jinx and all other rapey pdf mangas?

actual puritans were part of a religious group that was one of the significant groups of settlers in the American colonies and was known for their strict personal conduct according to their beliefs. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Puritans
people like to call others "puritans" for having any sort of moral considerations around what they read and being vocal about it, because disliking the prevalence of rape/incest/pedo content in adult media or having criticisms about how it's used means no fun allowed, ever, and that you're an advocate for censorship and sexual repression, obviously (/s)
I'd say the lack of consistency of the term an indicator that you should be skeptical about the people using the term and how/why they use it.

Thats kinda cool! did not know that.
Only knew from people using it around and kinda assumed the meaning from online context.
Personal attacks aren't very cool though, and calling someone a purist has somewhat been associated with advocates, that are aggressive and call other pedos for reading something, which is what I thought of it.
Which I guess calling someone a purist isn't very nice either.

I think some people are using it in the wrong context, nothing wrong with not liking them. If you attack someone then probably yes.

The problem is purists often advocate for an opinion like yours, standing on a moral highground with a holier, better-than-thou attitude and bashing everyone (perhaps including, but not limited to ad hominems and other distasteful insults) that reads them or disagrees with their 'moral and therefore the only justifiably correct opinion'

Also not to say that some dark plot points or whatever background or settings are absolutely necessary and they can be distasteful, the point is to not just trash on someone. The yaoi scene could also be arguably rather boring. Just imagine the authors writing two of their OCs doing kinky shit. You don't like it, fine.

It probably just gets used so often everyone conflates the terms or just associate whatever is like it. Like the internet usually does, I guess.

I didn't really like Jinx because it has too much drama. Also the top is just an ass. Like a balance of ass or some redeemable ass would be nice, but didn't like the top
