Hey history nerds what time in history or topic are you the most interested in?

A time before capitalism. Evidently, a common field worker on an average used to have 180 vacation days per year, and this didn't include sick days. And they used to have 2-3 hour lunch breaks, including a nap near the stream, intense chat sessions and whatnot. This was all before the advent of industrial revolution. Currently hyper-fixated on Gothic window tracery! Specifically the "geometric", "flamboyant" and "curvilinear" styles (and I have an unnecessary dislike for the perpendicular style). I'm really interested in how people managed to calculate all the shapes and styles through geometry - which is needlessly complicated and painful to work out, but it's......   reply

Art history is truly one of the most interesting ways to learn about world history, to me. In viewing art in museums, the historical contexts behind their making are something you don't fully get. It's fulfilling to me to have some background knowledge to fill the gaps left behind by a few-paragraph didactic. We learn new things about art history e......   reply
