https://www.mangago.me/thing/about/936204/And for today's pick we got a cute little animated movie, the PG-rated horror Coraline, a really popular movie I've actually never watched before.
OK first off, I HAVE to give the biggest props to the animation itself, because this gorgeous spectacle is stop-motion animated, and I'm not an artist or anything but that type of animation always looked the most draining and difficult to do, so huge respect to the studio that animated this. The animation was really beautiful and whimsical, and it also managed to create a creepy atmosphere too. However, the story itself was not all that interesting to me, it was kind of boring too ngl, and it wasn't really a scary movie at all. Maybe if I had watched this as a kid I would have been spooked but watching it as an adult just made me bored. Also bonus points for kinda sorta featuring a lesbian couple (not mentioned in-movie but confirmed by the author). Anyway it was still a good movie, albeit more impressive visually rather than impressive with it's storytelling, it's still pretty watchable so I'll rate it like 3/5

Stop motion *is* in fact, the hardest animation method to animate, for Coraline, it was a big studio that specialized in stop motion so it only took 4 years, which is most impressive taking in how hard the medium is to tackle ^^ ! Movies like Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio, took 15 years to fully develop
I do agree with you though, I think Coraline's only spooky to kids, I found it boring because I never watched it as a kid, Coraline was annoying sometimes but besides the point, I like the concept of it I just think since it's for kids they couldn't make it very scary which is sad lol.
If You're a fan of stop motion, I REALLY need you to watch Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio though, this is the only version and re-imagining of Pinocchio that I like, it's not watered down like Disney's bullshit, it talks about WW1 and WW2 and places Pinocchio as a puppet made by a drunken old man who lost his son during the war. It's a kids movie so it doesnt go DEEP into politics but the themes are very heavily put into the story, heck they even have Mussolini in the fucking movie
To be specific, the Italian Pinocchio criticizes religion, war, leaders, political figures, and parents who send their kids to war, it's a really great story imo
Wow, okay I didn't know it actually took 4 years for this movie to be animated, that's amazing ngl. Although seeing how great it looked I guess I shouldn't be too surprised it was a long pain in the ass to animate lmao.
And yeah it really was boring, as you said had I watched this as a kid I probably would have enjoyed it more and maybe even gotten a bit scared since I am pretty skittish with "creepy" stories, but as an adult I was mostly just paying attention to the animation and not giving af about the story because it was really boring. And I didn't mind Coraline all that much except for when she was being kinda mean to Wybie I think his name was. :((
Also thanks for the movie recommendation, I'm not much of a movie fan so I've never watched either the OG Disney Pinocchio nor the one made by Guillermo del Toro but I heard the latter was praised a lot by the viewers, I might watch it.
