Am I overthinking?

Am I overthinking this, or is this guy a red flag?

There’s an abandoned looking house in my neighborhood, I didn’t know anyone lived there until I saw a man come out one day. Didn’t think much of it at first.

A few days later, I was walking my younger sisters (minors, one still in elementary school) down that same street, it’s the main path to town, so we pass it often. This time he tried to talk to them specifically, not me, even though I was right there as the adult. He asked, “Is that your cat?” That struck me as odd for two reasons, he directed it at my sisters instead of me, and the only cat we’d interacted with was two blocks away, from a previous walk, meaning he’d been watching us. I cut the conversation off, told him it wasn’t our cat, and left.

While I just happened to not be home, he showed up at our house, which is strange on its own, since we live four streets over and I have no idea how he found our address. He asked my mom the same question, this time about a stray cat I’ve been feeding. My mom mentioned it to me, and I told her he’s the same guy from the walk.

He also seems visibly off, possibly under the influence of something.

Today, while my family and I were out visiting a relative, he came back to our house again, and also approached other neighborhood kids to ask about the cat. He’s now claiming the cat is his and that he’s been “missing” it for a year, but I’ve only been feeding this cat for 4–5 months, and it’s clearly scared of him.

So, am I overreacting, or is this genuinely concerning? I keep feeling like the cat is just an excuse for him to talk to my siblings and other minors, but I don’t know for sure.
