If you haven't heard, Philadelphia's Academy of Natural Sciences has officially shut its doors. After less that 2 decades of being in charge of it, Drexel University has decided to shut down the almost 200 years old museum. This is under the lead of Drexel's new president, Antonio Merlo, who has only been in position since january of last year.
They announced at the beginning of this month that the museum would officially close on september 30th, after making no attempt to raise any funds. The William Penn Foundation has since offered to donate the costs of keeping the Academy open for another year, yet so far the only response from Drexel has been that "they'll be in talks with the foundation".
This shit is fucking disheartening, I have no words.
