WHAT DO YOU MEAN THERES A CHESS FANDOM? AND THERES SHIPPING???
Like I know plenty of people that are into chess, but similar to the phenomenon of peering at what F1 and NBA fans do on the internet, I'm discovering that there is a whole group of people into chess that write fan fiction and make art where they ship grandmasters of the game. The internet is a fascinating place.
Anyways I found this out from watching this video: https://youtu.be/nMfGGcUzDRE?is=ijM_Phpy3nYr7pD8 It's super good!!! It's about the world record longest chess battle. Definitely recommend! From this, the comments have enlightened me that there are dedicated shippers to be found everywhere somehow. Anyways I was mainly just sharing because I thought it was interesting, but I guess since I'm posting a question, what do you guys think about the ethics of real person fiction? I know in Kpop fandoms it's been a heated debate topic for years. But I never really felt like I could discuss anything about it, because I'm not all that into kpop. However the phenomenon of being a fan of real people to the point where it becomes synonymous with fangirl culture and naturally starts creating a subculture of shippers, is starting to become more common and known about within sports and youtube fans (and thus more westerners by extension). And people/corporations are starting to take notice about the financial gains to be had from pandering to said fangirls. What do you think about the ethics of all or this? And do you have any predictions for the future of fandom culture? ʅ(◞‿◟)ʃ
