“Chivalry” is misogyny
I got into an argument on TikTok so I thought I’d post it here to see what ppl think. All I said was that women play into the patriarchy by wanting men to do everything for the, (holding doors, pumping gas, buying flowers, proposing, etc). It implies that women can’t do things for themselves, and they just need a man to do it for them. Some ppl say that it’s just what men do when they care about their partners, but I think it’s more than that. The men want to feel in control and if a woman was to buy flowers for a man *many* would be appalled. Tbh it’s still treating women like objects, bc they don’t want them to get their hands dirty. A valued object is still an object. What are your thoughts on this?
I don’t really know. Chivalry was kinda a toss away to women like, “you can’t own a car but I’ll open the car door for you”. An ineffective way of leveling the field. I believe it was created out of misogyny and sexism, but I’m not sure about tossing it out because society is misogynistic. It’s “chivalrous” to escort a woman home....... reply
