When I started reading manga about two years ago (I was 15), I preferred romance and sometimes I saw yaoi, but always avoided it thinking "I'm not really into that. I wouldn't like it." I think I am both. During the day when I am around other people I am feeling more than a little sadistic, especially to those I know well.
