I've read some more messed up and poorly written stories, but I mostly just write those off with an "ew" and move on. One of the few series that genuinely annoys me is Junjou Romantica (I hope this doesn't upset anyone I know it's popular). Yeah it's kinda weird, because they're often drawn prettily but then other characters will call them plain/ugly/not good enough for the top? It's like the authors are trying to have it both ways by having an MC that's both nice to look at and a relatable audience surrogate.
