True, most are not that interesting, but some authors create some wonderful couples or potential partners and their little story arc at the end can be very satisfying. It really comes down to the author and what the side characters contributed to the plot. Example below

Idc if people enjoy using their imagination to get a good “what if” scenario going. They are just 2D characters and besides that, some authors create excellent male characters but struggle to not simply use the FCs for fan service.

I am sorry to hear that you have been struggling with so much. There is an argument that since we no longer live a life of survival of the fittest, all the poor genetic traits are being bred to next generations and there is a dumbing down and devolution taking place. At least in Western nations.
