This author is so good and it's making me mad at this point How many stories are unfinished or have like one chapter. Black and white. Not even not even close to completed.

The forbidden love between a samurai and a craftsman.

This is not a bad story, but there is a certain aspect of it that cannot be understood without loads more historical context. It was also difficult telling the leads apart. Sensei by the end tells the samurai guy that he did poorly in order to force him to inherit the dojo like everyone wants him to. Samurai says he'll return to sensei's place anyway. They both part saying the other is troublesome, but it also seemed as though, while they elected to accept their roles in society, that they also continued their relationship in secret. At least, that's how I'm interpreting it.

I get it insomuch as it's about forbidden love across class lines, but I have no idea who and what was happening specifically in this story, the characters' names weren't clearly enough introduced for me and with the hairstyles and dress, everyone kinda looked the same.

Unforgiving society and a duty towards family are understandable reason why some people might not be together

aaangst. first time reading it, i was confused like what? what happened? but then i took my time rereading it and enjoying all little detail. i was surprised to find that this manga is so ... full of love. only on the second time did i notice how they really love each other, wanting to be by each other's side. the hint is subtle, it's gentle, and the art is refined. i really appreciate this manga, probably one of my all time favorite which makes me search for more of hidaka-sensei's works online. i'd recommend this.
