Do you know the backseat driving? I was doing that the entire time I read this. I would put down my iPad and come up with scenarios where she could cut him down where she should have cut him down. And the thing is, in a perfect book it would’ve ended with them breaking up and with her cutting him down to his core politely. Wouldn’t this have ended better had he brought the bouquet, and had she realized in that moment that yes she did want to get a divorce, because the nice moments they spent together will never be out shined over the fact that he destroyed her career that she built up. By herself mind you through her connections. That 10 years ago he dumped her by saying I can never introduce you to my family, despite the fact that they were reasons for it he never told her so. And the worst part of it is he only has a slight bit of remorse for what he did and that’s that. In my head it would’ve ended like this, her realizing the moment she sees him in the moment he says we’re getting married for her to just take a deep breath and realize it’s over. Letting her cut him down with the truth of the shitty things that he did for example, the fact that he was with her and her first and took her love and just crushed it essentially destroying a prominent part of herself. A prominent part that took 10 years to rebuild and yes even the situation with meeting him again. The fact that he essentially blackmailed her, tricked her, coerced her, and destroyed her career for his own selfish delusions when he could’ve just use any woman or even a maid to pretend to be his wife. Or his steady girlfriend or fiancé whatever for the situation. The fact that he figured everything was good and hunky-dory at the end of it when he said we should have a kid of her own and she ignored him and said that he it sounded like he was joking. Because to me that was the perfect indicator that she just wasn’t feeling it. Her telling him all of this and then just ending it with, what we had again a second time was just closure from the relationship 10 years ago. And now it’s over. And then just ending it. It would’ve been so much better than that he was so unlikable, he was annoying, he was honestly just really skeezy and disgusting. I read a lot of these and I’ve read a lot of horrible men in the stores but this is the first time we’re someone some man in the stores has actually made me feel gross. He’s disgusting and there’s no getting around it and I’m tempted to read the original novel but I’m afraid it’s gonna be even more disgusting. She deserves better, she deserved to tell him to go fuck himself because really fucked that guy, but not literally.

I kind of liked that he realized what a selfish clod he was. Her remark about how his denseness and thoughtlessness about other people's feelings made it easy for him to calmly manipulate them was spot on (I've personally known a number of people like that, who would be shocked to know that others thought them selfish and manipulative). He was really damned fortunate that the FL was a very good person.

Hard to pin this one down. The FL is a strong woman in that she deals with the gut punches the ML throws at her with surprising resilience, and doesn't respond with equal 'violence'. If she'd wanted to, she could have easily sabatouged his stability attempt with a phone call of her own, but she kept her head, realized what was done was done, but the child shouldn't be collateral damage. It was good, too, that the ML actually woke up and realized what his selfish maneuvering cost her... twice... and felt regret. We didn't get another - an actual heartfelt - apology at that point, but we did get an explanation for his first abandonment, and the FL was surprisingly accepting. I liked how she didn't hold grudges. They say hatred and wanting revenge is akin to eating rat poison and hoping the rat will die. The truth is, holding onto those emotions does you more harm than your target, and the FL is a good example of how staying positive, even after being blindsided, let's you move forward and not stay stuck in the rut of the past. The ML I was less impressed with. He was thoughtless to the last. At first you could blame it on his desperation, but in the end he did it again... threw his money around to make things happen his way without consideration for her intents or wishes. I appreciated the sediment - give her an actual wedding to remember - but if planning her own wedding had been a big deal to her, it could have become a bad memory. I guess that's where her positive attitude wins again. The ML got better than he deserved and I hope she can help him learn to rein in his selfish thoughlessness.

Ummm why can’t he just tell her he loves her and then plan a wedding? The ending sucked bc he planned their wedding without her acknowledge and basically force her to say yes to marry him!! Why can’t the FL let the ML suffer and ask him if he loves her first before she marries him not after!!!!
