This absolutely tops this list. The art is beautiful, the story is compelling, character design is A+
"Makoto is referred to as a "deviant" because of his abnormal inclinations and has always suffered alone. One day, he half-heartedly used a "book for summoning a demon" and did a summoning ceremony, successfully summoning the Archduke of the Demon World, J. In exchange for his life, Makoto made a deal with J in order to make his hidden desires granted. Then, he was sudd
This is a bit one-note, but it seems like the story could be taking more of a long-form style instead of 1-3 chapter vignettes. It is quite gory and the author def goes over the top in the villainry.
"The manga centers on homicide detective Hiroki Dan, son of a former police superintendent general, and who seems to be on the fast track to career success. He maintains a hidden identity as a serial killer responsible for more than a hundred murders of people he deems beyond the reach of the
It's a lot like Brutal except a bit more psychological like ooo who was the real cause of the issueee
"At a certain park, there is a mysterious man, who has red eyes and a black suit, that people can go to and request him to kill someone. His assassinations can never be blamed on him because he takes no illegal action. His strength is in the power of suggestion and the arrangement of events. He accepts these requests, all the while privately mocking the foolishness of those whose unwi
The main draw of this manga is definitely the art and composition, which are both extraordinary. The story is a bit confusing and definitely pretty sad. TW for SA.
" There are no elephants in tutus walking on their hind legs; it's slit-eyed jugglers and daring death-loving trapeze artists and sad Pierrot clowns, even if the Pierrot clown - our hero, Torinosu, 'Bird's Nest' - has a false red nose. The tawdriness comes from the circus master pimping out his performers to anyone willing to pay."
By far the most popular of the works listed. This has a very compelling storyline and a lot of interesting themes about maladaptive coping, psychosis, and codependent relationships. I worry for those who think this is a romance. It is very smutty tho :/ TW for SA.
""Yoon Bum, a scrawny quiet boy, has a crush on one of the most popular and handsome guys in school, Sangwoo. One day, with his obsession towards Sangwoo reaching its peak, Yoon Bum decides to enter his home...."
I can't really say that I recommend this work, but I also can't leave it out. This kid is just so fucked up!!! The author actually disappeared on a huge cliffhanger, which is kind of perfect for it. TW for SA.
"A highschool girl stands at the edge of a building, about to take her own life. She then witnesses below a man being stabbed by a hooded man. She is instilled with fear at the mysterious man's cold-bloodedness, cowering as he suddenly appears on the roof."
Here is another fucked up little guy story!! This one is kinda fun being set in Victorian-ish England. I personally couldn't take it as seriously as some of the others, but it was a fun read.
"This work is a story about a boy, Rwanda, whose mother is a vicious murderer, set in England at the end of the 19th century."
(Spoilers, Rwanda is also a vicious murderer. Shocker!)
Really can't say I recommend this one, but it is iconic for a reason. I just didn't enjoy how women were treated in this at all. I mostly just read this for Kakihara cuz he looks sick af in the movie . TW for SA.
"In Shinjuku Kabuki-Cho, the biggest sin town in Japan, there are two crazy guys. Ichi is a coward and a wimp, but once he breaks into tears, he turns into a human weapon. His arch enemy is Kakihara, a yakuza boss who's tired of everything, including himself....&quo
Okay, so I read this ages ago (like 8 years??) and it was definitely a unique premise and pretty well executed, but I don't remember much else.
"The five form the Kurosagi ("Black Heron?-their ominous bird logo) Corpse Delivery Service: whether suicide, murder, accident, or illness, they'll carry your body wherever it needs to go to free your soul! The kids from Kurosagi can smell a customer a mile away--it's a good thing one of the girls majored in embalming!"
It's definitely unique
But not for everyone
There aren't that many chapters, so it is hard to say where this story will go.
"After getting beaten up during a rainy night, he woke up to find himself in captivity. Then, a young man with a bright smile appeared in front of him and offered him a “meal”. How will the strange relationship between these two continue?"
