Really enjoyed the first chapters when he notices him, but only for totally mundane reasons. They don't see each other and immediately fall in love; neither acts as if they know with any certainty that they'll be together or should be together. The author keeps them apart for a noticeably long time, and the time he spends alone in the sweltering heat wondering what he's doing...it's so entirely undramatic and yet moving. Loved this. Gives me hope that the genre is moving past
Feels correct
hetero, adapted from a korean novel iirc, tragedy
It's no masterpiece, but it has charm as a coming of age story ok
"quintessential Zaria, somewhere in that murky area of consent and desire and teetering on the edge of violence"
Somehow got adapted into a live action movie when I wasn't looking
single father, slow build up, character development
due for a reread
I love suzuki tsuta and everything she does. re-read her works in december and they're imperfect (noticeably dated the further back you go) but there's no author afterword that I read with such intensity and her love for older tired ukes has kept me fed through dark winters. I think work in is my favorite, actually!
Because no fujoshi's list is complete without it.
The adaption of this is golden. Sweet, slow, and clear is the perfect description.
Merry Christmas or merry xxxmas
