well no, its all about political reasons, see the anime they already pass this part and in the part where ikki and his dad meet they talk about that, his dad dont hate him but if a F rank like him were to become stronger than the A class then political problems about the system will emerge, so for that reason even if means killing ikki he wants him in the place the system say he should be, so yeah the dad is a bastard that only think in himself

Why is the family so against Ikki getting stronger? Shouldn't they be happy that he is the weakest and is still able to win over stronger opponents?
Could it be, that Ikki has some kind of mysterious power that hasn't show it self yet? And that power turns out to be stronger than what the rest of the family has.
